Information for Race Day

Marathon relay bibs have a different color than regular marathon bibs, making it possible for course officials to inform relay participants of the transition points. For this reason, start number must be clearly visible at all times.

Transition areas are easily accessible by public transport (see below). Due to numerous road closures, no attempt should be made to organize your own transport to the transition points. The relay transition areas are separate from the actual running route. Approx. 100 meters before the respective transition points, signs and course officials indicate the upcoming transition area. At each transition area there is a “pit lane” for handing over the “baton” (transponder with Velcro secured to the ankle). The respective boxes are assigned by start number.

Section 1st runner: approx. 16 km

From the start at „Pieschener Allee“ to transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“

The starting block is marked on the bib and is assigned based on the first runner’s expected running time for 16km.

Section 2nd runner: approx. 9 km

From transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur” to transition area „Waldschlösschenbrücke“

The second runner, like all marathon participants, must reach the junction for the second marathon round (km 20.5; Italian Village/Theaterplatz) by 1:15 p.m.

Section 3rd runner: approx. 12,2 km

From transition area „Waldschlösschenbrücke“ to transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“

Section 4th runner: approx. 5 km

From transition area „Straßburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“ to the finish at MARITIM HOTEL, Devrientstrasse

Joint finish: At km 41.7 runners 1-3 can join the final runner to cross the finish line together as a team. To do so, the 3rd runner would have to travel quickly by tram from Strassburger Platz to Postplatz (approx. 6 minutes travel time). From there you walk approximately 500m to the MEETING POINT (yellow/blue beach flag) on Terrassenufer opposite of Semperoper. It is only about 450m to the finish line.

The finish line closes at 4 p.m. There is a time limit on the event and road closures on the running route are only in effect during the official event time.

MAP OF TRANSITION AREAS HERE

Arrival and departure to and from the transition areas is via public transport. Your start number is valid as a ticket on the day of the marathon. Attention: Please be sure to allow enough time on the day of the race, as there may be delays due to road closures.

Transition area 1+3 (Strassburger Platz/Gläserne Manufaktur) can be reached from Postplatz with tram numbers 1, 2, 4, 12.

Transition area 2 (Waldschlösschenbrücke) can be reached from “Kongresszentrum/Haus der Presse” with tram number 11 (approx. every 15 minutes), travel time approx. 20 minutes).

ATTENTION: Tram number 11 DOES NOT operate from 10.30 a.m. to approximately 11.15 a.m.

Relay runner 1 can drop off a “pre-run” clothing bag and relay runner 4 can drop-off a “post-run” clothing bag at the bag check located in the underground garage of the International Congress Center.

Bags must be picked up by 5 p.m. at the latest.

Bag drop-off for the transition areas must be organized individually. There is no possibility of an event-organized bag transport.

There are short-term bag check facilities at each transition area.

We recommend the following procedure for relay teams:

Each runner who starts at a transition point brings the “post-run” clothing bag of the runner before him to the bag check.  He also hands in his own “pre-run” clothing bag. Both bags are then picked up by the runner who exits at the transition area.

It is extremely important to label each clothing bag with the start number! The organizer assumes no liability for damage or loss.

Timekeeping is accomplished using a reusable transponder secured to the ankle with Velcro that is passed on from runner to runner. The transponder automatically serves as a “baton” and must be passed on to the next relay runner at the transition areas. Securing the transponder to the ankle with Velcro is mandatory. The total net time of the relay and the individual split times are recorded if the start, finish, and all control mats laid out on the route are crossed.

THE TRANSPONDER MUST BE RETURNED AFTER THE FINISH!

The starting line-up begins at 10.10 a.m. at Pieschener Allee (approx. 700m from the Congress Center).

Starting blocks (marked on bib): A+E (Elite) / B / C.

Start time is 10.30 a.m.

The finish line closes at 4.00 p.m.

Aid stations at km 5,5 / 19 / 39,8 offer pure still water. Km 39,8 additionally offers Coke and salt.

Aid stations at km 10 / 20.6 / 26 / 30 / 31.6 and the finish offer water, tea, Xenofit iso-drinks, bananas and raisin bread.

Tea, apples, watermelon, and ERDINGER non-alcoholic beer are also available at the finish.

Pure still water is available at the transition areas (limited supply).

To avoid collisions, we ask that you use the entire length of the aid stations.

Information for After the Event
