Good to know for running day
Course Sections / Transition Areas
The bib numbers of the marathon relay participants are differently in color from those of the other marathon runners. This makes it possible for the stewards to inform the relay participants of the exchange points. For this reason, the start number must be clearly visible at all times.
The transition areas are easily accessible by public transport (see below). Due to the numerous road closures, no attempt should be made to organize your own transport to the exchange points. The relay transition areas are delimited from the actual running route. Approx. 100 meters before the respective change points, signs and stewards indicate the upcoming transition area. At each transition area there is a “pit lane” for handing over the “baton” (transponder with Velcro on the ankle). The allocation to the respective boxes is based on the start number.
Section 1st runner: approx. 16 km
From start „Pieschener Allee“ to transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“
Starting block according of the expected running time for 16km of the first runner according to the marking at the bib number.
Section 2nd runner: approx. 9 km
From transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur to transition area „Waldschlösschenbrücke“
The second runner, like all marathon participants, must be at the junction for the second marathon round (km 20.5; Italienisches Dörfchen/Theaterplatz) by 1:15 p.m.
Section 3rd runner: approx. 12,2 km
From transition area „Waldschlösschenbrücke“ to transition area „Strassburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“
Section 4th runner: approx. 5 km
From transition area „Straßburger Platz / Gläserne Manufaktur“ to the finish at MARITIM HOTEL, Devrientstrasse
Joint finish: At km 41.7 there is the possibility that runners 1-3 join the final runner and finish together. To do this, the 3rd runner would have to travel quickly by tram from Strassburger Platz to Postplatz (approx. 6 minutes driving time). From there you can reach the MEETING POINT (yellow/blue beach flag) on Terrassenufer opposite of Semperoper after a walk of approx. 500m. It is only about 450m to the finish line.
Finish will be closed 4 p.m. The event period is limited in time and the road closures on the running route only exist within the specified running times.
The arrival and departure from and to the transition areas is by public transport. The start number is valid as a ticket on the day of the marathon. Attention: Please be sure to allow enough time on the day of the race, as there may be delays due to road closures.
Transition area 1+3 (Strassburger Platz/Gläserne Manufaktur) can be reached from Postplatz with tram numbers 1, 2, 4, 12.
Transition area 2 (Waldschlösschenbrücke) can be reached, for example, from “Kongresszentrum/Haus der Presse ” tram number 11 (approx. every 15 minutes), journey time approx. 20 minutes).
ATTENTION: Number 11 DOES NOT operate from 10.30 a.m. to around 11.15 a.m
Facilities are located in the underground car park of the International Congress Center.
Relay runner 1 can hand in his “pre-run” clothing, relay runner 4 his “post-run” clothing directly there.
These clothes bags must be picked up by 5 p.m. at the latest.
The transport of the clothes bags to the transition areas must be regulated individually, there is no possibility of organized transport.
There are short-term baggage storage facilities at the respective transition areas.
We recommend the following procedure for the team:
The runner who starts at the exchange point brings the “post-run” clothing of the runner who runs before him to these baggage storage. At the same time, it is possible for him to hand in his own “pre-run” clothing.
It is imperative to pay attention to a label with the start number. This bag is then picked up and taken away by the runner who exits at the transition area. The organizer assumes no liability for damage or loss.
Timekeeping will be done using a reusable transponder fixed to the ankle with Velcro and passed from runner to runner. The transponder automatically serves as a “baton” and must be passed on to the next relay runner at the transition areas. Attachment to the ankle with Velcro is imperative. The total net time of the relay and the individual split times are recorded when the start and finish as well as all control mats laid out on the route are overrun.
THE TRANSPONDER SHALL BE SUBMITTED AFTER THE FINISH!
